Building a CNC-Cut Torsion Box Assembly Table
Alyssa Donovan of AlyCat CNC shows how her ShopSabre PRO 510 isn’t just used to produce customer work, it can also be used to make the shop itself more efficient. In this project, Alyssa and Evan build a precision torsion box assembly table designed around their workflow, with integrated clamping points and CNC-cut joinery for quick, accurate assembly.

Designed in Fusion 360, the table uses tab-and-slot construction, dogbone joints, and a 96 mm on-center hole pattern with 20 mm clamping holes across both the top and vertical faces. Evan also walks through the CAM setup and tooling used to machine the Baltic birch components.
On the ShopSabre, AlyCat takes advantage of the automatic tool changer, vacuum hold-down, and an onion-skin cutting strategy to keep the parts securely in place while maintaining a clean finish on both sides of the material.
Once the parts come off the machine, the precision of the CNC makes assembly straightforward with tight-fitting joints and repeatable components. And this table isn’t just for show, AlyCat immediately puts it to work assembling custom cabinetry.
