Building a Side-by-Side Roof Scoop with H Town Performance

What CNC plasma table do custom UTV roll cage builders use? At H Town Performance in Henderson, Nevada, it’s a ShopSabre ShopMaster, and it turns a roof scoop that took a couple of hours by hand into a ten-minute cut.

H Town Performance is a side-by-side fabrication shop serving Henderson and Las Vegas riders. For 20 years the shop has built custom roll cages, roofs, and window frames, including window frames for other off-road companies’ roll cages, plus custom builds “from mild to wild.”

For most of those years, cage parts were made by hand and CNC parts were outsourced, which cost time and money. Dale wanted everything in house so the shop could design and cut on the same day. His two requirements for a machine: American made, and customer support he could reach on the phone.

That decision put a ShopMaster CNC plasma table at H Town Performance. In this video, CAD operator Rawlins models an aluminum roof scoop and mounting tab in SolidWorks, lays out the roof and window frame in AutoCAD, and sets kerf compensation and entry and exit points in EnRoute before cutting two thicknesses of aluminum on the ShopMaster. The parts are bead rolled, bent on a finger brake, powder coated, and mounted to a two-seat Maverick cage with quarter-turn Dzus fasteners. In Dale’s words, “What’s going to take our company to the next level is cutting multiple projects in one day.”
