Restoring a Steel Table with CNC-Cut Iroko Inlays
Jordan Shill of Haven Builders takes on a custom restoration project, using a ShopSabre CNC router to create precision-cut Iroko inlays for an existing steel table frame. With the original wood degraded from years outdoors, the goal is to preserve the steel frame while replacing the worn material with accurately fitted new pieces.

Jordan walks through the process behind getting a clean, repeatable fit—from preparing the spoilboard and maximizing vacuum hold-down to setting up the parts in Mosaic and generating the G-code for the CNC.
After milling and gluing up the Iroko, the finished material is secured to the table and cut to shape. The ShopSabre handles the 1-inch-thick material in a single pass, producing clean edges and precisely fitted pieces that can be transferred directly into the existing steel frame with minimal hand fitting.
Beyond the table itself, the project shows how bringing CNC capabilities in-house has opened new opportunities for Haven Builders. What originally began as a way to improve quality and efficiency in custom millwork and cabinetry has expanded into custom commissions and fabrication work that would be difficult to reproduce consistently by hand.
